Service, Therapy, Emotional Support Dogs -
What is the Difference?

Today, there is a great misunderstanding between the difference between a Therapy dog, a Service dog, and an Emotional Support dog. The three types of dogs, all providing great support to others, are not used the same.

Increasingly, dogs are being used for innovative purposes (such as putting a paw on a child’s chest so they will let the dentist work on their teeth), so it can be easy to confuse the difference between therapy dogs and service dogs.

The chart to the right shows the differences between the types of support each provide.

Weekly Member Training
On the "Club Side" during each Thursday night training, club members are offered a variety of obedience training sessions, as well as health and wellness presentations. Members volunteer to lead one or more sessions throughout the year.

WE HAVE OFFERED an Essential Oils program, basic massage techniques and also a Reiki healing demonstration.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SOMETHING NEW EACH WEEK:
- ACK Tricks titles

- ACK Canine Good Citizen™, CGCA and CGC Urban titles

- Organized group walks with our dogs to attain AKC Fit Dog titles (CVOC is an official AKC Fit Dog Club.)

- Some member's dogs love to run FCAT and Coursing events.

- Some members enjoy a day at the Carolina Training Center in the dock diving pool or at an Agility, Scent work, or Tracking class.

Rally Training
Rally is fun! Rally is a class that emphasizes teamwork between the dog and handler. Multiple cues, both verbal and non-verbal, can be used. The first two levels are performed with the dog on lead. There are three higher levels performed with the dog off lead. Basic obedience exercises such as sit, down, stay, heel and come are used in various combinations to allow the dog/handler teams to show how they work together.
